Advice From A Horse

They’ll talk to you if you listen.  You can’t just half-way listen or barely be in their presence.  You have to fully be there and really listen to be able to hear what a horse has to say to you.  Sometimes, Hank will put his nose on my shoulder from the back and just stay there.  He’ll breathe into my neck as long as I’ll stand there.  That’s just Hank.  My other horses communicate in their own way with me.  But each does communicate.  It’s taken me years to know how to listen.  And I know it’ll take more years to  get to where I need to be to hear everything they are saying to me.

If you’re a horse lover and you’ve been around horses, you know that you learn so much from them.  I know that I have.  My horses have taught me patience, have helped me in knowing how to persevere, knowing how to be diligent and in knowing how to enjoy and love my life.  I guess that’s why I feel like my horses are family.  They are not animals on the fringes of my life.  After God and family, there they are.  I thank God that I was able to grow up with horses and that I am still able to care for mine and keep them at their best.

Ilan Shamir wrote a small piece called, “Advice From A Horse”.  I believe if horses could speak like humans, these are the words they would utter.  I hope it blesses you as it does me!
