Wouldn’t it be great to still have this kind of show on television? Prime time? My goodness. If a show were created that had sincere praying and acknowledgment of God, there would be groups rioting in the streets. And that, my friends, is a sad commentary.
I am so grateful that I was exposed to this kind of entertainment as a child. Even back then, I knew it was special. Special because of the feelings it invoked in me. Special because God was made a part of the program. Roy Rogers would end the show with “A Cowboy’s Prayer”.
The Cowboy’s Prayer. Oh Lord, I reckon I’m not much just by myself. I fail to do a lot of things I ought to do. But Lord, when trails are steep and passes high, Help me to ride it straight the whole way through. And when in the falling dusk I get the final call, I do not care how many flowers they send. Above all else the happiest trail would be for You to say to me, “Let’s ride, My friend.” Amen. ~Prayed by Roy Rogers at the close of his show.
When he finished his prayer, he would mount up on Trigger and say a few things and always end with “From Trigger and me, goodbye, good luck and may The Good Lord take a liking to you”.
That still blesses me as much today as when I was a child. I can’t tell you how many times I have thought of this prayer. And each time I think of it, I have the same feeling of nostalgia–the same feeling of peace.
Praying that you feel peace, love and joy on this beautiful Labor Day Weekend.
Sending you blessings of love and gratitude from Sterrett, Alabama!
