It’s really hard not to have regrets and not look back. But you do your present and your future a great disservice by holding onto the past. You cannot change it, edit it, alter it, refine it or wish it into something else. It is what it was. And it ain’t going to change. Ever.
Never be a prisoner of your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence. ~Unknown
Overthinking about the past and focusing on the “could have’s” and “should have’s” can destroy your peace of mind. And once you go there, it’s hard to regain your focus and be happy in the present moment. As a matter of fact, it is almost impossible to regain your focus without going through emotional turmoil.
We weren’t made to live in the past. God made us to live each day in joy and peace.
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. ~Isaiah 43:18
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~Jeremiah 29:11
Dwelling on your past limits you. You cannot see all the good in store for you if you keep your eyes, heart and soul focused on your past. Always remember that there isn’t any past too bad, too dirty or too wrong that God can’t make good, clean and right. No matter how long you’ve stayed there, it’s never too late to get out of your past and start living for today. It’s never too late to focus on your future and make it wonderful.
