When I was growing up, every now and then, I’d hear the term, “fair-weather friend”. I didn’t understand the full meaning of that term until I grew older.
Now I know that it refers to those friends who are there only in the good times. Only when the sun is shining. Only if they are getting something out of it.
I thank God for my TRUE FRIENDS. I thank God that He blessed with with such loving, caring true friends that I know without a shadow of a doubt they love me. And they love me no matter if I am happy or if my heart is falling apart.
Anyone can show up when. you’re happy. But the ones who stay by your side when your heart falls apart, they are your TRUE FRIENDS.
We all have very busy lives. Each and every one of us. But we can’t get so busy that we aren’t there for our family and friends. Of course, we can’t stay in touch with everyone all the time. But sometimes, a friend really needs you. They may have a scary health diagnosis. They may be in financial trouble. They may be dealing with addiction.
Don’t run from them. You might not can do a lot, but you can probably do something. Let them know that you want to help. Show them that you are a true friend.
I’ve always linked friendship together with loyalty. And, to me, loyalty manifests itself during a friend’s hard times. If so-called “friends” leave a friend when their heart is falling apart, there is no loyalty there. And I understand that there are circumstances in which you cannot be of any help or you may feel that you are further enabling someone to continue bad or risky behavior. I get that.
But if you leave a friend because they are going through bad times, then you aren’t a true friend. Period.
True and loyal friends are hard to come by. But loyalty works both ways. To have a true and loyal friend, you have to be a true and loyal friend. True and loyal friends look after their friends. And stand by them when their heart is falling apart.
