It’s good to have my new mare and colt at home with us!
In my last blog entry I shared with you that I was hoping to bring them home over the weekend. Well, it didn’t happen…due to various reasons. But, they did come home late Monday evening! It makes me feel good to have them home.
He seems to be in great shape. He has a few nicks and scrapes, but he seems really excited to be at his forever home. Mama, on the other hand, may not be so happy. She just seems sad. I tend to think that it is because of all she has been through, but I know that only time will replace any bad memories with good ones.

When we first got them home, all the other horses just couldn’t get enough of him. He went up to them right away and they hung around them all night just trying to get a glimpse of him. Mama just stood patiently aside letting him get to know them.
Edge and DaKota were mesmerized. |
Hank (back) was the least impressed. |
It was funny to see all the different reactions from the horses. Mystic (my mare–DaKota’s mama) had the strangest reaction. She won’t have anything to do with him. And if he gets near DaKota, she goes crazy.
We are building a barn and we have some of the fencing down so that trucks can go in and out. Because of this, I couldn’t put the new mare and colt where I wanted to put them. So I wound up putting them in a pasture with Mystic. Two mares and a colt in one pasture. I’m thinking this would be great. Mystic has never shown the least bit aggression toward any other horse or human. Dakota (has not been gelded) stays with the geldings across the road in a separate pasture. But Mystic is acting like she has to protect DaKota from the new colt. If the colt goes toward the fence and DaKota is visible, Mystic will chase the colt back to his mama. She isn’t mean to him–she just don’t want him near DaKota. 🙂

For some reason, this little fella touches my soul. Maybe it’s because his mama almost didn’t make it. Maybe it is because he is such a perfect miracle and he seems so happy to be alive. I can’t help but cry when I feel his mama breathe on me. This morning, I loved on her and told her that I was as much in love with her as with him. 🙂

It is going to take me a while to get mama feeling and looking better. At least she is producing plenty of milk and the baby looked heavier today than yesterday. 🙂
When you’re on a small farm and a new addition comes in, everybody–and I do mean everybody–gets involved. Some of you may have seen a black lab in some of my pictures. I don’t think I have ever formally introduced him. His name is Moses Midnight. He loves the new baby.

I know without a doubt that these two came into my life for a reason. I will forever be grateful to God for taking us to our builder’s home that day and us getting to meet them. My heart knew right away that they would have their forever home with me. 🙂
Be Blessed.
