We get busy. We are running here and there. We are raising a family. We are providing for our family. We are working. A lot. We are caught up in what is happening at our jobs, in our schools, in our Churches, in our Community, in our States, across our Country and all over the world. We are sometimes so caught up in the big things that we don’t stop long enough to enjoy and be grateful for the little things. I know this now—way down deep in my heart—more than ever before. I have always been a workaholic. There is no other way to say it than to say it…I work too much. I always have.
Trust me, I got my work ethic honest. Both my father and mother have very strong work ethics. I’ve always admired them for that. But, I’ve learned that if you don’t have to work all the time, you shouldn’t. If you can take some time to just BE and BREATHE, you should. And you know what? It is always possible to take a little time away and enjoy the little things.
ENJOY and be GRATEFUL for the little things in life, for one day you will look back and realize they were the BIG THINGS. ~Unknown
Here are a few “little things” that later in my life have turned out to be the “BIG THINGS”:
- Spending time with children and grandchildren. Real time. No cell phones, no other devices that distract you from your children and grandchildren.
- Learning to be grateful for all I have. When you grow up without a lot, you tend to work hard to achieve more…and more…and more. You forget to sometimes look around and be grateful for everything you have. I am the most blessed person I know. And I am so grateful for everyone and everything I have in my life.
- Family time – I look back at my childhood and I am so very grateful for the times I had with my Grandmother, Mother and sisters. Our family dinners would sometimes last 3 hours. It took us only about 30 minutes to eat and we spent the rest of that time around the dinner table talking about everything. We laughed. We joked and enjoyed each other. As a child, I didn’t see the huge impact that would have on my life, but now I look back and see how impactful it was and that it was very important in my development as a young and older woman.
- Sharing my blessings – I grew up in a family that gave. A lot. We helped others. We blessed others. And, my oh my, how we were blessed. As a child, I thought that everybody was like us. I thought all the rich people were rich because they gave so much to people in need and therefore, they were so blessed. J Mother will never know the importance of the lessons I learned from her giving heart. ♥
There are so many other things that seem to be “little things”, but they become the “big things” when you get older. And, I guess these things differ for each person.
I just want to go on record saying, that I ENJOY and am GRATEFUL for the little things. Because I have looked back and realized they are the BIG THINGS.
Sending you blessings of love and gratitude from Sterrett, Alabama!
