This time of year, I am always remembering my childhood Christmas Seasons on the farm. It was great growing up on the farm with my three sisters, mother and grandmother. Christmas time was so very special for all of us. It was and still is my favorite time of year.
There were several things that made my Christmas very unique, but one of the most memorable is the way we received some of our presents.
Our farm’s property sits on a natural gas line. It comes down through one side of the property and cuts across the corral passer, crosses our dirt road, goes under another pasture, across a highway until it runs onto others’ property.
When we were little, the “gas line plane” dropped Christmas presents in one of our pastures. Yes, that’s right! They dropped presents from a plane into one of our pastures! Huge sacks filled with presents for all six of us, but mainly they were presents for us four girls. We’d all go running into the pasture to bring them in.
Isn’t that wonderful?! I can still feel that feeling. I will never forget it. Watching the plane circle for a couple of times before it dropped the presents and then watching as the bagged presents fell onto the ground. It was really something. How many people can say that? We were so, so blessed.
Please share something unique or very special about your childhood Christmas. We would love to hear it!
Sending you blessings of love, gratitude and peace from Sterrett, Alabama!
