Yes, I do. I love my sister. I have three sisters, but I don’t think of them as a “group” because they are all so unique with very different personalities. We all look differently, act differently and we have very different lives. Even though we’re all different, the love is the same–I love them to the moon and back.
The relationship you have with your sibling may the longest relationship of your life and it may bring you as much sadness as it does happiness, as much grief and it does laughter and as much anger as it does peace. It is what it is. Such is the bond with your sister. No other peer relationship involves a shared upbringing, shared genes and shared secrets.
And among all sibling relationships it is that between sisters that is both the closest and the most competitive. Psychologist Robert Williams describes the sister relationship as varying through life. “In childhood, a girl may view her older sister as a rival; when puberty approaches, the sister becomes and admirable guide to the adolescent world; shortly after, when both are receiving boys’ attentions, the sister may again become an unwelcome competitor.”
The good news is that no matter how much sisters squabble as children, things improve as they get older. As we get older, our desire for squabbling and drama decrease and our need to bond with family during important life events increases. Sisters bond throughout life more than other sibling pairs and tend to stay in touch more with each other about life.
My sisters mean the world to me. We were so bonded growing up. As life happens, we all live in different areas. But the distance nor the time that has passed can ever dim the love for them I have in my heart.
A Sister Just Like You: I just want to let you know you mean the world to me. Only a heart as dear as yours would give so unselfishly. The many things you’ve done, all the times that you were there, help me know deep down inside how much you really care. Even though I might not say I appreciate all you do, richly blessed is how I feel, having a sister just like you. ~Unknown
