Wouldn’t it be great to still have this kind of show on television? Prime time? My goodness. If a show were created that had sincere praying and acknowledgment of God, there would be groups rioting in the streets. And that, my friends, is a sad commentary.
I am so grateful that I was exposed to this kind of entertainment as a child. Even back then, I knew it was special. Special because of the feelings it invoked in me. Special because God was made a part of the program. Roy Rogers would end the show with “A Cowboy’s Prayer”.
The Cowboy’s Prayer. Oh Lord, I reckon I’m not much just by myself. I fail to do a lot of things I ought to do. But Lord, when trails are steep and passes high, Help me to ride it straight the whole way through. And when in the falling dusk I get the final call, I do not care how many flowers they send. Above all else the happiest trail would be for You to say to me, “Let’s ride, My friend.” Amen. ~Prayed by Roy Rogers at the close of his show (see video below).
When he finished his prayer, he would mount up on Trigger and say a few things and always end with “From Trigger and me, goodbye, good luck and may The Good Lord take a liking to you”.

That still blesses me as much today as when I was a child. I can’t tell you how many times I have thought of this prayer. And each time I think of it, I have the same feeling of nostalgia–the same feeling of peace.
Praying that you feel peace, love and joy this weekend.
Sending you blessings of love and gratitude from Sterrett, Alabama!
