I hear it all the time, “Live in the present.” “Make the most of this moment.” “Let go of the past.” “You only have right now.” I’m sure you hear the same quotes or very similar quotes too. But how many of us actually do it? How many of us live in this very moment?
One day at a time-this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone. And do not be troubled about the future, for it is yet to come. Live in the present and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering. ~Ida Scott Taylor
The truth is, it’s hard to live in only the present moment. It’s hard not to look back and worry over something that happened in the past. And, for me, it is even more difficult to not worry about the future. But, we are doing ourselves a great disservice if we don’t live in the present moment.
Your present moment cannot be impacted or changed by the past or future. It can only be impacted or changed by what you do this very moment.
The key to living in the present moment is to train your mind to stay in the present moment. It takes some work. For years, it was natural for me to look back and to look toward the future. It was as natural as me taking my next breath. But it was also very limiting to my present. When you’re still focused on your past mistakes, you can’t be at your full potential in the present. And if you’re worried about what the future is going to bring, your present days and moments aren’t productive as they could be and worry brings sadness.
Cherish each moment and make each moment beautiful. At the end of the day, you’ll find that you had a beautiful day, full of beautiful moments.
