Trust is a very, very expensive “thing”. You can’t buy it. You can’t touch it. But you know if you have it. You know if your heart and soul trust something or someone. And you know if you don’t have it for someone or something.
The most expensive thing in the world is TRUST. It can takes YEARS to EARN and just a matter of SECONDS to LOSE. ~Unknown
We’ve all been there. We’ve all trusted someone and then something happened to make us lose trust. That’s life. Those things happen. We can’t stop this kind of thing from happening. Everybody finds out sometime in their life that they placed trust in someone who betrayed that trust.
I’ve heard people say that they will NEVER trust someone who has betrayed their trust. And I’ve also seen people who work to forgive them and try to trust them again. Notice I said, “try” to trust them again. It’s hard.
Trust is one of those things that the human psyche needs for strong relationships and when it is gone, the relationship usually ends.
Often the one who gets betrayed must deal with the pain of betrayal before they can even begin to think about trusting again. Trust betrayal damages the heart and soul and it often takes a very long time to heal.
Trust is necessary in all types of relationships: between partners/spouses, between friends, between coworkers, teachers and students, pastor and congregation and so on. If there is no trust in these relationships, they really aren’t relationships. They may know each other, but there isn’t a real relationship between them.
For me, the biggest thing about learning to trust again is forgiveness. You can forgive without finding trust again. But you can’t trust again without true forgiveness. You have to be the one who determines whether or not you want to try to trust again. Don’t let anyone tell you what you need to do. It’s your heart that was betrayed and it’s your heart that determines whether or not you want to trust again.
