We’ve all heard, read it and thought it hundreds of times. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you“. Right? Did your parents and grandparents try to teach you the ‘Golden Rule’ when you were a child? But, it’s hard, isn’t it? Because sometimes people are just downright mean.
Set an example. Treat everyone with kindness and respect, even those who are rude to you– not because they are nice, but because you are. ~marcandangel
I’ve always thought that there is a difference between a ‘mean’ person and a ‘mean-spirited‘ person. We all know people who are not nice people. They are never happy, never kind and they often do things that are just mean. But a mean-spirited person lives a mean life. They are hateful, spiteful, are constantly “out to get” someone and, even when they smile to your face, they are working behind the scenes to stab you in the back.
Does that make me sound bitter? I’m laughing. Unfortunately, it is true. Yes, there are people who live a mean life and they are miserable. And, if they can, they will make you miserable too.
How do you handle these people? Do you give it right back to them? Or, do you set an example?
The best way to deal with mean-spirited people is to set an example of kindness and respect. Just because they act cra-cra doesn’t mean you have to get in the gutter with them. You be the nice person. You be the kind person. You be the respectful person. Because you are nice. You act like who you are, not who the other person is.
You’ll be amazed at the strength you gain by doing this. And the mean-spirited person? Well, they’ll get even weaker and they’ll wonder how you are so strong.
Sending you blessings of love and gratitude from Sterrett, Alabama!
