Yes, this picture is for real. This is just one of the many shocking images that emerged from Chance Ward’s work during the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. It is almost unbelievable what the residents of Texas have had to deal with during the catastrophic storm and flooding.
You’re familiar with the song, “Mama, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”, right? Well, we are sure glad Chance Ward’s mama let him be a Cowboy! And we’re glad he has a lot of friends who are Cowboys too!
Chance Ward, his son, Rowdy Ward, and many others who have worked with them are true Cowboys. They’ve gone out each day and rescued animals because it needed doing.
When I spoke with Chance, I was struck by his humbleness. I could tell that he didn’t really want a lot of praise. And he surely wasn’t doing it for any money. They were doing it because the animals needed to be cared for. They weren’t his cattle or his horses. They were moving them because it was the right thing to do. They could do it, so they did. True Cowboys.
Chance estimates that they moved at least 800 head of cattle to higher ground and at least 75 horses to higher ground.
Look at the short videos below to get an idea of what they’ve done to help these horses and cattle.

Some of you may have already seen this video (directly below). That is Rowdy Ward getting the gate open and getting this horse to safety.

This is a Cowboy friend of Chance’s. He rode this horse out to safety. He had no idea who the horse belonged to.

Thank you to Chance, Rowdy and all the people who rode with them and helped them. I thank God for Cowboys like you!
Chance owns a feed store and if you want to help his efforts, he says, “you can buy a bag of feed”. Isn’t that just like a True Cowboy? You can buy that bag of feed by calling 281-593-2456.
Blessings!
