My Newest Blessing(s)

July 27, 2014 By Charity M. Richey-Bentley Leave a Comment

Checkin’ me out

So, you all know that I’m always talking about how blessed I am, right?  It’s true.  I am always talking about it. 🙂
But, if I’m living a blessed life and I don’t acknowledge my blessings and express my gratitude, I believe I would be missing the point of living a blessed life.
I believe I am blessed because I am grateful for my blessings! 🙂

So, I want to share with you my newest blessings.  Some of you may remember that a week ago we began the process of building a new barn.  Last Saturday, we wound up at one of the builder’s home to see his horses.  He had some beautiful paints–a couple of geldings and a mare with a beautiful, 2-week old colt.

I fell in love with both mama and baby.  I don’t know why, but they looked a little out of place there.  I asked the owner about the mare’s story.  He said that he had saved her from slaughter–paid $100 for her.  My heart broke.

Well, as fate would have it, we left shortly thereafter and went to a horse show.  I couldn’t get the mare and colt off my mind.  I kept wondering whether or not I could buy them.  I was told that his daddy was a big shot…I didn’t care.  I don’t care about bloodlines or horse earnings.  I love the animals themselves.  I loved him and his mama.

So, guess who was at the horse show?  The owner of the mare and colt.  Yep.  Luck?  No.  I don’t believe in luck.  Coincidence?  Don’t believe in coincidences either.

It was another blessing  that he was there.  I saw him before my husband did.  I called out to him and he and his friends walked over to us.  Without any pleasantries, I immediately asked, “what’ll you take for them”?  He didn’t even pretend to not know what I was talking about.  He gave me a price and I stuck out my hand and said, “sold”.   So I am now the owner of this sweet mare and colt.

Beautiful markings
I absolutely adore appaloosas and paints.  This little colt has beautiful markings.  And his stance is something.  I believe he has every idea how beautiful he is.

I don’t have them at home yet.  I’m a little nervous about hauling him at such a young age.  I’m afraid that mama has been a little too traumatized to load easily and if she is traumatized, the colt won’t do well.

He is still a little skittish around me.  These photos were taken today.  At first, he wouldn’t let me get close.  I kept trying to get close to mama.  Eventually I did.  Once she started letting me pet and rub her, he did too.

Beautiful boy
You may be wondering why I am not posting any pictures of mama.  She doesn’t look so great.  I believe she is 23 and it is evident that she has been over-bred.  But she will be healthier soon.  I am going to see to it.  I promised her today that the rest of her life will be very good.  As soon as I have her in a healthier state, I will post pictures of her.  🙂

So, now do you believe me?  I really am blessed!  And I am so grateful!
