Remembering Our Loved Ones At Christmas Time

December 13, 2020 By Charity M. Richey-Bentley 28 Comments

Christmas can be the best time of the year, but it can also be sad. Some of us struggle with memories of loved ones who have passed on. The sadness we feel in our hearts overrides the joy of Christmas.

It isn’t that we aren’t happy for our families and friends because we are happy for them. It’s just that the sadness we feel in our hearts is so overwhelming that we can’t find the joy in the Christmas Season.

Whether your loved ones have been gone a short period or for many years, this can be a hard time. You want to feel joy and the peace that Christmas can bring, but you find it so hard to do because you are missing your loved ones so much.

The one thing that has helped me the most has been prayer. Prayer is a powerful weapon God gave to us.  I don’t know where I would be without prayer and my faith that have brought me through many hard times. I pray for peace in my heart and soul and I pray for God to comfort me during the hard times.

And I also pray for you–that you will find peace and know His comfort for your heart. I hope this prayer helps you.

Dear Heavenly Father, It’s hard for many right now because our hearts are broken. We can’t feel the joy and happiness of this Christmas Season. We are to be thankful for the gift of Your Son, but many are just feeling empty.

You promise to be near the brokenhearted and help them with their wounds. God, we can’t see Your way and our eyes keep losing focus on You. Give us peace, and lead us to comfort.

Help us to remember all the good times and celebrate our loved ones during this blessed Season. May we all feel Your presence, love and compassion and may we share Your joy with everyone we meet.

Help us find refreshment for our souls.  Send us gifts of Your love and let us feel hope in our hearts. Take away our sadness and replace it with Your joy. Be with us this Christmas Season!  In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Sending you prayerful blessings of love and gratitude from Sterrett, Alabama!

I read all of the above writings. I too, have the (missing them) feelings in my heart. I do not envy people who have the Celebrations in their heart, through family and friends. But, each person has (someone)….that they cherished and are now missing. Holidays are beautiful, and trying to do what we think is a challenge..BUT, we have to sit down and remember the Good people, still here with us. Some living far away, but never forgotten. I am trying deeply to adjust…but the Missing them, never ends.
